AMI PRESS RELEASE - JULY 2016
This month the City of Minden will begin installing the latest technology in both electric and water metering systems known as Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Meter reading operations and billing systems that have been performed manually in the past will soon be completely automated. Minden will have a database that offers hourly usage data, allowing us to provide detailed usage information immediately to you, the customer.
The firm in charge of the design, installation and maintenance of this technology is Aqua Metric Sales. The meters are manufactured by Sensus Metering Systems. We feel these are the most accurate water and electric meters requiring the least amount of infrastructure modifications. They will be installed by Utility Metering Solutions (UMS), a division of Aqua Metric Sales.
The installation process will begin July 2016 and should be completed in November of this year. In the very near future, the City of Minden will have posted on its website, www.mindenusa.com, a schedule indicating the dates and area affected throughout the installation process, as well as other updates as they become available. The installers will erect traffic barriers around the target areas and attempt to communicate with each customer prior to installing the new meters. If no one is home, they will leave a door hanger informing you of their progress.
Some customers will receive notice of required upgrades to their electric service equipment to meet code and safety regulations. These repairs must be made by a licensed electrician. For your convenience we have compiled a list of local licensed electricians. To see the list click HERE.
The City of Minden is very excited about this major improvement to our water and electric infrastructure. For the first time we will have a complete audit, inventory and location of every
meter within our system. For questions, concerns or to report a leak following this installation, please contact UMS at (800) 504-2568. Should you have more general questions or feedback, please contact the City of Minden Utility Office at (318) 377-2144.
Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we begin this major undertaking. The city is excited to offer this latest metering technology to its citizens.
